A Letter from the Founder
Welcome to Sisters in Christ International! It’s truly an honor to have you here. This is a movement, and we want you to be a part of it. Did you know God called YOU by name? Did you know He knows how many hairs you have on your head? He collects all of your tears. He is always with you. He has plans to give you hope and a future. It’s not about religion. It’s about relationship.
He is inviting you into a relationship, but you have to be intentional in taking that step and leaning into Him.
We are here to help you do that and encourage you along the way as we do life together.
Everyone has a story to share. As a journalist, I’ve gotten to go behind the scenes and to the frontlines and see firsthand what many people don’t. I’ve been to death row more than once. I’ve come face to face with convicted killers. I was at the scene of one of the nation’s deadliest mass shootings hours after it happened. I was there when a grieving community started forming a memorial for the 49 victims of the Pulse nightclub massacre. I’ve searched for survivors of the worst U.S. cargo disaster in more than half a century. I’ve been embedded with the Coast Guard on a C-130 as the plane dropped to just a few hundred feet above the water to look for wreckage of the El Faro near the Bahamas. I’ve embraced moms and dads who have lost their children and children who have lost have their moms and dads. I’ve faced grief head on after losing my own dear friend and fellow news anchor to senseless violence and then covered her killer’s trial.
I’ve watched tragedy transform into triumph. I’ve witnessed tears turn into action and despair turn into hope. I’ve been inspired by young and old. I’ve held hands with a 95-year-old man who had just earned his GED. I’ve watched in awe as a little boy burned over 90% percent of his body grew into a young man so confident, wise and faithful he is using his journey to help others. I’ve witnessed a young man declared brain dead prove doctors wrong. I’ve followed his journey in awe as he continues to make progress that can only be described as miraculous.
I’m humbled by those I meet. I’m grounded in faith. I’m loved by the most incredible family. At the end of the day, I’m blessed to come home to the loves of my life, my husband of more than twenty years and our two children.
As a news anchor, I’ve had the honor of sharing the stories of people from all walks of life and along the way, I have won seven Emmy Awards and a National Edward R. Murrow Award. To say I was driven is an understatement. I took pride in that, but one day I realized my career had become my identity. The gold statues on my shelves had become like the golden calf. I had achieved the goals I set, but I was still missing something. I wanted more. While I have always identified as a Christian, I wasn’t all in. I was caught up in the things of this world.
What I wanted was something that couldn’t be fulfilled by titles, awards or things. It could only be filled by Him.
In 2020 during the pandemic when the world was experiencing something we had never been through, I read a book that helped me see my true identity wasn’t a news anchor. I am a child of God, and sister YOU are too. Our mission is to love God and love people. Your mission field is right in front of you.
I took a leap of faith and followed God’s nudge to start a book club online. I homeschool my two amazing kids and work until midnight, so free time is not something I have in abundance. But when God calls, He equips, and I wanted to be obedient.
What started with a small group on Facebook turned into a community of women. We realized our stories are similar, and we’re not alone. We were created to do life together. And all those tests we have been through, those are all part of our testimony. At the end of the six-week study God prompted me to lead the group through another book and then another. At the end of 2020 His nudge was loud, lead them through reading the Daily Walk Bible. My reaction was, “You must have the wrong person. I’m not qualified. I haven’t been to seminary school. Me???”
I started reading the Daily Walk Bible in 2017 cover to cover after a friend posted online inviting others to join her. While it started off as a task and took being intentional in making it the first thing I did every day, now I crave that quiet time with God. I treasure it. It only takes about 15 minutes of your time a day, and in one year you will have read the entire Bible! The Bible changed my life, and I love sharing the hope and freedom I have found with women and hearing how the Bible is changing their lives.
In 2021 we launched Sisters in Christ and our community started growing. We meet every week on Zoom and share our struggles and joys as we read the Bible cover to cover. It’s a special group of prayer warriors that is hard to put into words. You just have to experience it. It’s a no judgement zone. Come as you are. We were created to do life together, and that is what we are doing.
In 2022 we set out on a mission to reach women in every country on the planet. We had our first in person Brave gathering in Jacksonville, Florida and we were all blown away at how God moved. He has given us each unique gifts. When we come together and use them for His glory, you will be blown away too.
Sisters in Christ International became an official non-profit in July 2022. We are a movement helping women around the world fix our eyes on Jesus as we read the Bible cover to cover and do life together.
We are up against an enemy who comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but sister, the battle has already been won. The enemy screams lies at you. You’re not worthy. Your past disqualifies you. No one loves you. You don’t matter. You are alone. I’m here to tell you, Jesus went to the cross to set you free. You are not alone. You are loved by a God who is triumphant, a God who is full of unfailing love, grace, and mercy. He has called YOU by name. He wants a relationship with you.
Once you experience Him your life will be changed forever. We are here to guide you through the Bible in a year so you can know what His Word says, experience Him on a deeper level, and be a disciple making disciple. He created YOU for a purpose. Now is the time to live it out. Take your eyes off your circumstances and fix them firmly on Him. Join our movement transforming women into warriors through His Word.
