Son of man, how does a grapevine compare to a tree? Is a vine’s wood as useful as the wood of a tree?
Ezekiel 15:2
As I read this verse today, I instantly thought of Isaiah 61(b): “In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for his own glory.” Grapevines are flimsy and can break in an instant. The Lord was telling Ezekiel that the rebellious people in Jerusalem were like grapevines. They were worshipping idols and turning their hearts away from Him. In Isaiah 61(b), the promise for the righteous, the ones whose hearts are turned towards Him and worship Him alone, will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for His own glory. Oak trees are strong because of their roots.
Remember today; you were once a fragile grapevine that could have easily broken under pressure. You’ve chosen Jesus as your Savior to incline your heart to His and worship Him. He says you’re a great oak planted for His own glory!
