For I am like a tree whose roots reach the water,
whose branches are refreshed with the dew.
Job 29:19
New Year – Same God
Happy Friday! I love this verse for us to end on for the week. The translation I read from referenced Psalm 1:3 for our verse image, “They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.” Listen to Psalm 1:2, “But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night.”
We can see throughout Job’s life, this is reason why He was like a tree whose roots reached the water and whose branches were refreshed with dew. He was a righteous man who delighted in the law of the Lord and meditated on it day and night. If we read the beginning of Job 29 again, it says God took care of him. He walked in the light, he had friendship with God in his home and the Almighty was still with him. You see this man walked in the ways of the Lord continuously. The wicked think everything comes from them and their strength, but Job knew all he was and had was from the Lord.
When I saw the word “branch”, I immediately thought of John 15. “Abide in Me, and I will abide in you. The branch cannot itself produce fruit, unless it abides on the vine. Likewise, you cannot produce fruit unless you abide in Me. “I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for apart from Me, you can do nothing.” John 15:4-5 TLV Job had deep roots in the Lord and his branches were being refreshed with the dew of God.
How are you feeling after this week? Are you feeling refreshed or worn slam out (as my best friend Lisa says)? Say Job 29:19 and John 14 4-5 out loud and thank God for him being the vine and the dew. I leave you with this verse if you need encouragement, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though our outward man is decaying, yet our inward man is renewed day by day.” 2 Corinthians 4:16 TLV https://youtu.be/BA-Wi4fdcVE
It’s a new year, but He’s the Same God of Job and of you.
