And he said to man,
“Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom,
and to turn away from evil is understanding.”
New Year – Same God
Chapter 28 is called, “Job Speaks of Wisdom and Understanding.” The chapter starts out talking about what people know how and where to find things, but they do not know where to find wisdom (to me Job is saying, “They’re searching the created, not the Creator.”). Wisdom can’t be bought by human hands or paid for with precious stones, because it is invaluable. So where can wisdom be found? The answer lies in Job 28:23 “God alone understands the way to wisdom; he knows where it can be found.” (News flash: it is found in Him).
Our verse image today says, “The fear of the Lord is true wisdom; to forsake evil is real understanding.” Job 28:28 NLT Fearing God means having a reverence for Him that greatly impacts the way we live. The fear of God is respecting Him, obeying Him, submitting to His discipline, and worshiping Him in awe (www.gotquestions.org). The verses before Job 28:28, speak of God deciding how hard the wind should blow and how long the rain should fall. Then, He saw wisdom, evaluated it, set it in place and examined it thoroughly. Job had a deep understanding of God and God’s creation around him. Notice, Job had been left with virtually nothing…not even his health. Yet, he had a fear of the Lord that produced wisdom in him; he was blameless, a man of complete integrity and stayed away from evil (Job 1:1).
Do you have the fear of the Lord that greatly impacts the way you live? Do you marvel at His creation? Do you value wisdom? Do you respect Him, obey Him, submit to His discipline and worship Him in awe? What a perfect time to sit with the One who gives true wisdom and worship the Lord in awe. https://youtu.be/GfVd5x9W1Xc
It’s a new year, but He’s the Same God of Job and of you.
