Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.
Wow! I am certainly challenged by this verse from Paul, are you? In verse 22, Paul said he was bound by the Spirit to go to Jerusalem and had no idea what awaited him there. Verse 23 says the Holy Spirit told him in city after city that there would be a lot of jail and suffering. But this verse sums up the zeal of Paul and his mission to choose Jesus over whatever was coming his way. Zeal is defined as great energy or enthusiasm in pursuit of a cause or an objective. It is plain as day that Paul had enthusiasm to complete the task that he was given by Jesus to testify to ALL the good news of God’s grace. The first part of verse 24 says, “I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me…” Is your aim to finish your race and complete your task or the Lord’s? I am taking this to the Lord in my prayer time today to ask Him (through the Holy Spirit) to speak to me about whose race am I trying to finish? I ask you to do the same. If we finish the task the Lord Jesus has given us and run His race, we will hear at the end “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
